Large nonprofit organizations have been on my mind for the past couple of days. The larger they get, the greater percentage of their effort and resources must be directed toward the administration and management of those efforts and resources. Yes, it's a confusing statement to match the confusing and self-perpetuating downward spiral it describes.
I guess this came up because I went to an East Palo Alto Council of Tenants meeting last night. My writing class is designated as a Community Writing Project class, which means one of our regular papers is replaced by a piece of writing for a local nonprofit organization. Four of us are going to be working with housing in East Palo Alto, which is the sole un-posh neighborhood in Silicon Valley. There were a lot of nice people with nice fancy phrases covering their true content in more layers than the mummification process.
