I've fallen into a mild habit of some involved bike trip the day before a quarter starts: last winter it was Molly and I and the Baylands with lots of detours, and in the spring it was Kings Mountain Road.

To start this quarter off with a bang, how about a hack at hiking up Half Dome? Crews'll have just finished (on September 19, to be precise) some trail work along the last quarter-mile, and we can be one of the first bunches to test out the shiny new cables and rockwork. Leave Monday night, take the park shuttle to the trailhead and be hiking by 6am on Tuesday, do the hike (estimated 7-12 hours), and be back on campus by 10pm for a good night's sleep. Any takers?
