Last Friday I hit up special dinner at Hammarskjöld, the house where I lived (and serendipitously KM'ed for half of) last year. At the frats, sororities, suites, and self-ops special dinner tends to be an extravagant semi-formal affair, but the houses where I've lived in the past few years just launch a massive all-house cooking effort and pick a really fun theme. This time, it was Glamourskjöld!.
The dinner was at once swank and casual. The food (especially the amazing orange rosemary martini in the photo—rosemary in a beverage, who knew?) and setting (they pulled all the couches outside and blasted swoozy jazz) were truly special, but enough people made a mockery of the costume/theme that the atmosphere stayed fun. My usual circles of habitation (Kairos, ultimate, HCI classes) are so incestuous that I'd forgotten that meeting new people could be fun. Ah, good times.
